Press Release

Walton County Businessman Enters Congressional Primary!

Loganville, Georgia, February 26, 2010 - Walton County businessman, Tom Kirby, announced today that he is entering the Republican Primary for the United States House of Representatives for Georgia’s 7th District. Tom stated, “It is time to reform Government and return to the limits and powers that the Constitution clearly defines for our Government”. He believes that “politics as usual” needs to stop and that the growth of government is out of control and cannot be sustained.

The foundation of Tom’s campaign is his Contract with the People. This direct, plain-speaking document clearly states his views regarding the Constitutional and ethical role of government in the American people’s daily lives and pockets. In addition to the return to the limits and powers expressed in the Constitution, the Contract calls for a balanced budget and fiscal responsibility; something that every American household has to abide by.

Tom is clear and direct regarding his views on Government spending and the burden being placed on the American people. Tom prefers facts over finger-pointing. According to the Government’s own numbers, in the 15 fiscal years from 1994 to 2009, Federal spending increased by 140% from $1.4 trillion to $3.5 trillion. At the same time, the federal debt increased by 156% from $4.6 trillion to $11.8 trillion.
In the 12 years from 1994 to 2006, Federal spending increased by 82% from $1.4 trillion to $2.6 trillion while the Federal debt increased by 84% from $4.6 trillion to $8.5 trillion and the deficit increased by $48 billion. These actual facts and figures are clear. The issues with Government spending are not new to the current Congress and Administration nor are they entirely the result of the previous. He sites this as a blatant and tragic example of “politics as usual” that cannot continue.

His support of the Fair Tax is second to none. He believes that the Fair tax is not only fair for all Americans, but, will create the foundation for our economic success for the next 100 years as it encourages the return of industries that create wealth, manufacturing and agriculture. His lifelong personal and professional experience in both agriculture and manufacturing have confirmed that the key to long term stability in the job force is clearly routed in maintaining these key industries as the foundation of the domestic job base and economy. Tom considers the Fair tax, and these critical elements of the program, to be of the highest priority.
